How to install
[a game installation guide]

Having a mobile phone is nothing much for you now, but remember when you first bought it! You were most likely pleased with your acquisition and you had to check it at least several times of day. After some time like all of us the monotony kicks in. Boredom sets in.. You get tired of it and you start changing themes, backgrounds. Most likely you would already have tried lots of new ringtones by now and even some stickers or cover changes.

Nowadays most mobile phones have integrated java support with JAVA MDP and with this in mind you can turn your mobile phone into the ultimate spy gadget or entertainment gizmo.

Getting new software or games for your mobile phone is not that hard, not costy either. There’s no need to buy java applications when you have some free alternatives. I would recommend at least one particular website called Get Jar (easy to remember as .jar is the extension of a java application, actually it is a compressed format that hold the actual application but you can remember by this term).

Get Jar home page: .

Go to this website and carefully select your mobile phone version and brand. This is an important step as some java applications are compatible only on specific systems and not all mobile phones have the same system. After this look through the pages and find the mobile phone application game or software that you like. Search the entire database as like I said there are some neat applications like some to recored your every call, to secretly record sound as a spy recorder would. Some other cool applications: to fake caller id, to fake someone calling you at a specific time, turn your mobile in a webcam for your laptop or desktop, encrypt sensitive data, etc.

As for games you have lots of games to choose from and although most are demo you will never get tired of your mobile phone now, at least for a while.

To install a java application there are two ways:

  • have internet enabled on your mobile phone and use your favorite browser to download the jar file. The mobile phone will ask if you want to install it, Choose yes
  • have the mobile phone connected to a pc with internet access. Use the pc to download the jar file and send it to the mobile phone. After this step clck on the received file and choose to install it.

Diablo 2 Game:

Once you buy Diablo 2 , which is an awesome game from Blizzard (can’t wait to get my hand on Diablo 3 ), you will have three of these:
Diablo 3 cd cover

and of course the expansion from Diablo 2 : Lord of Destruction (if you also bought it):

Lord of Destruction Diablo 2

How to install Diablo 2

Nothing easier. Just insert the first Diablo 2 cd (the installation cd, it says so right on Diablo 2 cd cover). Autorun from Diablo 2 will start. It should look like the picture below:

Installation of Diablo II
(picture with autorun with setup from Diablo 2)

You will see as in the screenshot provided above, that there are only three installation options for Diablo 2. These are:

Single Player (this is a small install, meaning 500Mb small – it will install only what is necessary for the game to run off the hard drive),

Multiplayer (the so called medium installation size: 900 Mb . Choose this option and the setup will install everything to the hard disk, all without the cinematic. For this you will be asked for the cinematics disc), and

Full (full installation at only 1.5 Giga Bytes – Installs everything you need to play the game, however you will still be asked for the CD for authentication purposes ).

Choose whatever fits for you. Enjoy Diablo 2.

Installing older games can have its benefits. Although an old game ( a.k.a. abandonware ) can not be compared with the amazing 3d computer games from nowadays it has advantages like:

  1. It’s free
  2. Older games are small in size
  3. If you get bored by playing an older game you can try a new one (still old though)
  4. You don’t need a super computer to play it

Also get an older game and play it for old time sakes, we shouldn’t ignore older games that we grew up while playing them. The nostalgia is still there! Believe me

Installing a dos game

Dos games are often incompatible with xp versions and not to speak about Windows Vista where such games are obsolete. You can see the conspiracy right? We are forced by the bigger companies like Microsoft to leave old software and games behind. We shouldn’t be! Would it have been that hard to implement an emulator to play these games ? No

Running the setup
Start the dos like game setup interface and write an install path. Install it and almost all old games have an auto configuration second setup file that will detect your adlib compatible sound card. Run the game. If it doesn’t work because of microsoft then right click on it on properties and under emulate choose windows xp. if necessary choose disable theme styles and run in 256 color mode.

Most games that refuse to start will run well after this configuration. Play your old game and remember abandonware is out there and it is free. Share it !
